Dothan Commission appoints Interim City Manager

DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — An interim City Manager for Dothan has been named.

The Dothan City Commission officially appointed Randall S. Morris as Interim City Manager during a three-minute special call commission meeting on Monday, April 22.

Morris will start on Wednesday, May 1, after the current City Manager Kevin Cowper’s contract expires. Morris has served as Cowper’s Assistant City Manager.

The Dothan City Commission chose not to renew Cowper’s contract in a controversial 4-3 vote Tuesday morning.

Once the vote came down, many in the crowd who supported Cowper stood up and left, seemingly upset with the commission’s decision.

Just hours after the commission chambers emptied, a concerned Dothan citizen, Oscar Handal, took action and launched a petition on Change.org to save Cowper’s job. The petition currently has 560 signatures, surpassing the original goal of 500.
