Inmate dies in Reno County Jail

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — The Reno County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate has died at the county correctional facility.

It happened shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday when deputies were notified an inmate was “in distress in his cell.” The sheriff’s office says deputies began lifesaving measures until Reno County EMS and Hutchinson Fire personnel arrived.

The inmate was pronounced dead a short time later. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was contacted to assist in the investigation into his death as required by law.

The sheriff’s office says the inmate’s name is being withheld until his family has been notified.
