Inmate dies at Horry County jail, sheriff’s office says

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — An inmate at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center died on Monday, according to the Horry County Sheriff’s Office.

The inmate, whose name wasn’t immediately available, was found unresponsive in their cell at about 1 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. Responding officers started life-saving efforts and called EMS.

EMS took the inmate to Conway Medical Center, where they later died, according to the sheriff’s office. No foul play is suspected.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating, which is detention center protocol.
