There will be storms in the northeast highlands as well, where there is a severe weather threat. A few storms will become severe in the northeast and far east plains, with a threat of damaging wind and hail. Meanwhile, the lower elevations of New Mexico will see virga, with light showers or sprinkles, and gusty winds. Far southern New Mexico will stay drier and sunnier again. Temperatures will climb back into the 70s, 80s and 90s.

A backdoor cold front will move into New Mexico tonight through Thursday morning. This will bring more low level moisture into the state, and keep rain chances going through the night and into Thursday morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible Thursday from morning to evening, across all of the state. The Metro could even see some of our heaviest rain from morning to early afternoon. Temperatures will stay much cooler on Thursday, before warming back up on Friday.
