Incarcerated man who walked away from re-entry program found: CDCR

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The incarcerated man who walked away from a San Diego community re-entry program nearly two weeks ago was found and arrested in North County on Sunday, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

Quintin Wilkerson, 53, was arrested by the Escondido Police Department around 7:50 p.m. after he was located in the city and a short foot pursuit ensued. Special agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety then transported him to a correctional facility in East County.

Wilkerson was first transported into the custody of CDCR on Feb. 22 and was housed at the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) since Jan. 23.

According to the department, he was sentenced to six years for corporal injury on a specific person resulting in traumatic condition. An enhancement for domestic violence was also added to his sentence.

With his second arrest, CDCR says he could face possible escape charges. His case was referred to the San Diego County District Attorney’s office.

MCRP is a voluntary program that allows eligible people committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentence in a re-entry center, designed to provide them programs and tools to transition from custody back into the community.

Services include substance use disorder treatment, mental health care, medical care, employment training, education, housing, family reunification and other social support, CDCR said.
