Hutchinson water line repair delayed after larger problem found

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — The City of Hutchinson says complications have delayed the repair of a waterline that began last month.

On April 18, a 24-inch waterline under Severance Street broke between 17th and 23rd Avenue. Crews made immediate repairs and installed a temporary clamp on the damaged section of the pipe.

However, when crews began excavation to make permanent repairs, they found much more significant damage to the waterline. Crews will now need to replace approximately 250 feet of the waterline.

The city says they are in the process of selecting a contractor to replace the line. They expect work to start within the next two weeks.

Severance Street remains closed until work is complete.
