Hurlburt Field remembers Jockey-14 crew 30 years after tragic accident

HURLBURT FIELD — Officials at Hurlburt Field will host a remembrance ceremony for the crew of Jockey-14 at the Hurlburt Field Memorial Air Park on March 14 at 2 p.m.

On March 14, 1994, an AC-130H Specte gunship assigned to the 16th Special Operations Squadron (SOS) at Hurlburt, call sign Jockey-14, crashed in the Indian Ocean about 200 yards off the coast of Somalia during a routine Joint Task Force mission that supported Operation Continue Hope II.

Eight of the 14 crew members onboard the flight lost their lives. Those airmen include Capt. David Mehlhop, Capt. Mark Quam, Capt. Anthony Stefanik. Jr., Master Sgt. Roy Duncan, Tech Sgt. Robert Daniel, Staff Sgt. Brian Barnes, Staff Sgt. William Eyler and Staff Sgt. Michael Moser.

Eglin Flight Ops: 60th Fighter Squadron to conduct night flying operations over Okaloosa County

U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Michael T. Plehn, president of National Defense University, will be the guest speaker for the ceremony. The event plans include a flyover of two AC-130J Ghostriders assigned to the 16th and 4th SOS.

The event is open only to Department of Defense ID holders.
