Human remains, vehicle pulled from waterway may be linked to Stockton man who went missing in 1994

(FOX40.COM) — Stockton Police said a vehicle with human remains inside was pulled from a waterway in Sacramento County in mid-April and could be related to a missing persons case from three decades ago.

Adventures With Purpose, a private dive team that has helped in the finding and recovery of dozens of people, said on Sunday that it recently found a vehicle and human remains that may be linked to the missing person case of Arnel Nagal Narvaiz.

Stockton Police said on Monday that the finding and recovery took place “last week.”

The vehicle and remains were reportedly found in Sutton Slough, west of Locke, about 26 miles southwest of Sacramento.

Narvaiz was 36 years old when he went missing in July 1994 after heading to work in the Twin Cities Road area of Sacramento County, according to his case page on the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Narvaiz was last seen in a 1988 Toyota Cressida with license plate number 2HTD233, which is the same number on the vehicle that Adventures With Purpose said it found 31 ft. underwater.

In a live stream posted to Youtube, a member of the dive group said the team was searching for Duke Heringer, a man from Elk Grove who has been reported missing when they found the Toyota.

Stockton Police said they had notified Narvaiz’s family of the discovery of the vehicle and remains, and that DNA testing will be done to positively identify the remains.

The agency also said that there did not appear to be “any initial signs of foul play.”
