HRT announces temporary adjustments to Elizabeth River Ferry route

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Elizabeth River Ferry service will operate on an adjusted route starting on Thursday due to issues with the Waterside dock in Norfolk.

According to Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), the temporary change will start at 5:30 a.m. April 18.

The route changes can be found below:

  • Waterside stop: This stop will remain closed until the dock is safe to access. Service between Portsmouth and Norfolk will now dock at the Harbor Park ferry landing.

  • High Street stop: All service in Portsmouth will be consolidated to here – First ferry departs at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends through Memorial Day.

  • Harbor Park stop: Passengers will be directed via signs to The Tide light rail station. Passengers will also be able to access the Elizabeth River Trail from this stop.

Passengers going to Norfolk Tides baseball home games will have to use the High Street landing stop. The North Landing stop is closed until further notice.

Tickets purchased for the ferry will be honored on The Tide light rail. Passengers will need to show proof of payment for the transfer.
