House considers $1.2T spending package: Watch live

The House is expected to vote Friday on a package of six funding bills totaling $1.2 trillion, a necessary measure to prevent a partial government shutdown Saturday.

Among the departments included in the legislation are Defense, Labor, State, the IRS, Education and Homeland Security (DHS). Of these, funding for DHS has presented one of the biggest obstacles to a budget agreement for the current fiscal year.

House conservatives remain deeply opposed to the compromise package under consideration, but members of both parties can point to concessions wrested from their opponents.

If the bills pass in the House they’ll go on to the Senate, which will in turn be fighting the clock to present the legislation to President Biden for his signature.

The House session is set to begin at 9 a.m. EDT, with a vote slated for 11 a.m.
