Our hot and sticky pattern not going anywhere anytime soon

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)–While Friday was warm, hotter and more humid days are ahead over the holiday weekend. There will also be the chance for a few showers and thunderstorms, but the rain will be hit or miss, with widespread activity not anticipated.

On Saturday, there is a marginal risk level 1/5 for severe weather across the Wiregrass during the afternoon and evening. Isolated storms may form as early as 2 p.m., with slightly higher coverage likely across Houston, Henry, Barber, and Early Counties. The strongest of storms may produce wind gusts as high as 60 mph and small hail. As we lose daytime heating, storms will fade away after sunset.

Our focus will shift to Sunday when no rain is expected, and sunshine will be widespread. The combination of air temperatures in the low to mid-90s and dew points in the low 70s will allow the heat index to climb to near 100 degrees Sunday afternoon. People sensitive to the heat should take extra precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

By Monday and Tuesday, a slow-moving cold front will arrive in the Wiregrass, triggering isolated to scattered thunderstorms. Once again, it does not look like a washout. Behind this front, temperatures will still be warm, but the humidity will drop significantly.
