Horseheads girls lacrosse outlast Owego, Corning and Elmira Notre Dame boys fall on the road

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) – Horseheads girls lacrosse headlined a busy night in the Twin Tiers.

Horseheads girls lacrosse bested Owego on Tuesday, marking their 2nd straight home win. On the boys side, Corning and Elmira Notre Dame both fell in road matchups. In Horseheads, the Blue Raiders battled back and forth with the River Hawks early in the contest. Alexa Lese netted the first of her multi-goal game to open the scoring. Owego’s Madison McEvoy responded with 3 early goals to keep pace with Horseheads. The River Hawks would hold a 6-5 edge at the half, before the Blue Raiders rallied back for the 12-9 victory.

In boys lacrosse, Corning fell to Vestal 11-5 on the road. The Hawks now fall to 0-3 to start the season, which accounts for their worst start since the program became a combined unit. Corning will have a shot at their 1st win of the season this Thursday in Binghamton. Across town from the Hawks, Elmira Notre Dame fell to Seton Catholic 19-7. The setback also leaves the Crusaders in search of their 1st win of the season. Elmira Notre Dame returns to action Wednesday night, when they host Owego at 6 p.m.
