From the Hoover Dam to 'The Nation's Summer Capital': Rehoboth hires new city manager

Following a six-month search, "The Nation's Summer Capital" has hired a new city manager.

Kansas City-area native Taylour Tedder will start his new job in Rehoboth Beach on May 15.

The 35-year-old Tedder holds a master's degree in public administration, a Rehoboth Beach news release said. His most recent position, as the city manager of Boulder City, Nevada, began in 2021. With a population of about 15,000, Boulder City is home to the Hoover Dam and a short drive from Las Vegas. Tedder managed over 300 employees and a $198 million budget there, according to the news release.

In comparison, Rehoboth Beach has a population of about 1,100, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, but that number balloons into the tens of thousands in the summertime. Tedder will manage about 240 employees and a $38 million budget in Rehoboth, city spokesperson Lynne Coan said.

“His experience and skills align well with the challenges and opportunities that exist in Rehoboth Beach," Rehoboth Beach Mayor Stan Mills said in a news release. "He is fiscally savvy, experienced in the day-to-day operations of a destination community, enthusiastic and energetic, and a fantastic communicator."

Evan Miller has been serving as the interim city manager since last year, when Laurence Christian resigned after only a few months on the job due to "unforeseen personal family matters," a city news release said. Prior to that, Sharon Lynn served as city manager for about eight years, departing in 2022.
