Honor Flight #59 takes off next month

There’s another Honor Flight heading to the nation’s capital in April.

Honor Flight of the Quad Cities has announced the group’s 59th Honor Flight to Washington DC. Around 80 veterans who served in times of conflict will be able to see the memorials built in their honor. The day long Flight will be on Tuesday, April 23.

This time around, the flight will carry a veteran of World War 2, three Korean War veterans, a female veteran and many who served during the Vietnam War.

Jake Ward, a member of the Honor Flight Board will be the deputy commander of flight #59 and Phil Corwin, a retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel will be the flight commander. The veterans will be accompanied by 70+ trained volunteer “guardians” who will help the veterans throughout the day. The three buses in Washington will have trained bus captains to assist the veterans and guardians.

The veterans will return to the Quad City International Airport at the end of the day at about 10 p.m. The public is encouraged to come to the airport and give the veterans a warm reception and welcome home. Airport parking will be free.

Anyone with a year of honorable, non-training, active duty before 1976 can fill out an application for an Honor Flight and send it, along with a DD214, to Honor Flight c/o Ridgecrest Village 4130 Northwest Blvd., Davenport, IA 52806. Click here for the form.
