Passerby shot, killed during altercation in Hickman County

HICKMAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A homicide investigation is underway after a passerby was killed and a young person was shot in Hickman County Wednesday.

Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were called to a home in the 2200 block of Wayne Road in the Bon Aqua community.

Investigators believe the incident began with an altercation between a juvenile, a young man and the 70-year-old homeowner, Danny Pewitt, on the property.

During the altercation, a motorist was flagged down and stopped, according to the TBI.

The TBI reported Pewitt fired a weapon, striking and killing the motorist, who was identified as 64-year-old Clair Parish. The juvenile who was also shot was taken to an area hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Pewitt was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide. He was booked into the Hickman County jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
