Hollyoaks star David Ames confirms Carter Shepherd exit

Hollyoaks star David Ames has confirmed his character Carter Shepherd's exit from the soap.
The former Hollyoaks High head teacher has wreaked havoc since his arrival in the village last year.
The character has been involved in John Paul McQueen's conversion therapy storyline, as well as getting arrested earlier this month when he planned to flee Chester after plotting against the local Pride festival.
Speaking to Inside Soap, Ames opened up about Carter's upcoming return to the village and revealed that his reappearance will be his last.

"It was never going to end brilliantly for him. Carter is a villain and needs his comeuppance, and the storyline must make people realise gay conversion is abhorrent," he explained.
"His time is done, and we have to clearly illustrate this kind of practice is no way to treat anyone, particularly impressionable teenagers. There isn't really any redeemable way forward for Carter right now."
Upon his return to Chester, Carter and his henchman Gareth will kidnap John Paul as part of his revenge plan, with the villain pledging to baptise John Paul in a lake.
This coincides with Declan Hawthorne, leader of the religious conversion therapy group, kidnapping his estranged daughter Kitty Draper.

Ahead of the dramatic storyline coming to a head next week, Ames went on to reveal what the future could hold for Carter following his final scenes.
"He needs to slope off and lick his wounds; the people he's hurt need him to go off and get his punishment. Whatever happens, this ends with Carter all alone with his thoughts — and that is torture enough for him," he said.
On his experience at Hollyoaks, the actor added: "I've made so many good friends and it's been such a lovely experience. I feel privileged to tell a story that is very much a talking point in my community."
Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
