Cross country runners can get back to enjoying the trails at Holloway Park, which has reopened under the city's ownership.

Lakeland's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts staff closed the roughly 379-acre park in early April for maintenance. The park, created by the late Lakeland developer Edward Holloway, is located off Edgewood Drive South and Lakeland Highlands Road at 2402 Holloway Park Drive.

The Holloway family donated the park to the city earlier this year with the caveat it remain open recreational space. One of the issues addressed by the city was the park's entrance road. In a Facebook post, city staff indicated the entrance road has been fixed to make it easier for vehicles to enter the park. The park will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. In addition to a variety of running trails ranging from 1 km to 10 km, or 6.2 miles, it offers an 18-hole disc golf course and is a nature preserve.

Residents who have any suggestions or requests for the park are encouraged to contact the city's park division at parks@lakelandgov.net or 863-834-2233. More information about the park can be found at hollowaypark.org.
