Man charged in shooting that killed Holland father of two

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Family members say a man who died after being shot in the head in Holland loved his family, fishing and was always willing to lend a hand.

Jerrell Lindsey, 26, of Holland, appeared in a Holland courtroom via video on Monday afternoon for arraignment on a charge of murder in the death Miguel Raul Zamudio, a father of two. Bond was denied.

The shooting happened Saturday afternoon in the area of Van Raalte Avenue and W 19th Street. On Monday, shotgun shot damage could could still be seen on the home’s door.

Miguel Zamudio visiting his parents when the shooting happened, his brother, Juan Zamudio, told News 8. Juan Zamudio said the family was outside enjoying the nice weather and some homemade tacos when they saw Lindsey, who was carrying a shotgun, approach from behind a neighbor’s house.

He said he and his brother hustled their family members into the house. Miguel Zamudio was the last inside, the brother said, and family members heard a shot as he walked in the door.

Miguel Zamudio died Sunday at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was 41 years old.

Juan Zamudio called his brother a lucky charm, even after death, because he was an organ donor.

Investigators say that before the shooting, Lindsey pointed a gun at his girlfriend at a home on Harrison Avenue. She was able to get away.

Police said Lindsey made “statements of a possible bomb in the house” on W 19th Street near where the shooting happened, prompting police to take “all necessary precautions,” though they considered the threat “unlikely.” Federal investigators were called to the scene but found no explosives, police said.
