Holiday decorations ruled cause of Kingston Township house fire

KINGSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Holiday decorations with batteries were ruled the cause of a fire from earlier Wednesday, according to the Trucksville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Fire Chief.

Luzerne County had flames shooting through the roof, destroying part of an attic.

The fire was on Ivy Drive in Kingston Township on Wednesday afternoon.

It called for emergency responders from Trucksville, Dallas, and Swoyersville.

Neighbors could see flames and smoke from the rooftop before it was knocked down.

“I opened my back window and I thought I smelled a little smoke and I could see black stuff like landing on my deck so I thought maybe that’s my roof so ran up to the attic real quick and I saw smoke in the back corner just a little bit and could smell like smoke and heard some crackling so then I immediately told my daughter to grab the dogs and get out,” said homeowner Jamie Greco.

The Red Cross is now helping seven people and several pets who were displaced due to heavy water damage.
