Historical Society's annual dinner enjoyed by all
Apr. 28—GREENSBURG — The Historical Society of Decatur County held its annual dinner and program on Saturday, April 20, in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church in Greensburg.
Tom Barker, HSDC board president, welcomed the 35 guests. Board member Larry Rueff gave the blessing for the delicious meal which was prepared by Jan Hubbard. The guests enjoyed entrées of baked pork tenderloin with plum glaze and parmesan chicken breast. The meal with complimented by cheesy potatoes, glazed carrots, broccoli spears, apple salad, dinner rolls and assorted pies.
Once the tables were cleared, Barker introduced the HSDC board members then turned the microphone over to the presenter of the evening. David B. Reddick, the author of "The Indiana Flag: Who Really Designed It?" gave a 30-minute program on the history of Indiana's flag. He mainly focused on Mary Stewart Carey, who lived in Greensburg as a young child before her family moved to Indianapolis.
Carey was a principal figure in the DAR's leadership as they worked to present a design to the state legislature which could be formally adopted as the Indiana state flag.
She was also part of several other civic-minded projects in Indianapolis, a notable one being her involvement in the creation of the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
At the conclusion of the program, guests were given the opportunity to purchase a copy of "The Indiana Flag: Who Really Designed It?" and have the author sign it.
The Historical Society has a limited number of copies of the book for sale in its museum gift shop.
