TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Throughout the history of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a total of 17 deputies have died in the line of duty. On Thursday, the sheriff’s office hosted a touching memorial service to honor the fallen heroes.

The families and loved ones of the fallen deputies, along with HCSO personnel, gathered at the Fallen Heroes Memorial outside the sheriff’s office to honor the deputies’ lives and service.

“As we prepare to honor our fallen deputies, let us also reaffirm our commitment to carrying on their legacy,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Let us uphold the values of honor, integrity, and courage that they exemplified every day in the line of duty.”

Former Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn spoke during the service, which also included a flyer over by the HCSO Aviation Unit and a 21-Gun Salute.
