Hillary Clinton stepped (out of the woods and back) into the public eye on Tuesday, making a surprise appearance at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball to present singer and campaign pal Katy Perry with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award.

"I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to celebrate," Clinton said from the microphone in what was only her second public appearance since she conceded the election to Donald Trump in November. Clinton praised the "global megastar" and "social media queen" as "someone whose powerful voice and creative lyrics remind us when you get knocked down to get back up."

(Let's all pause and picture Clinton belting out "Brave" in her well-appointed shower, drowning out news of our president-elect's latest racist and sexist appointees to cabinet positions. Okay, story resumes below.)

"I've gotten to spend time with her and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place," Clinton said on Tuesday. "She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever-her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice."

Perry returned the favor when she accepted the award, tearing up and thanking Clinton for her endless activism and passion. "You motivate me and so many millions of people," Perry said.
