Highmark announces layoffs in Central Pennsylvania

CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA (WHTM) — Highmark recently confirmed that they have laid off more than three dozen Central Pennsylvania employees.

According to a spokesperson with Highmark, the company recently laid off a total of 41 employees across the Central Pennsylvania region.

“Change is not only constant but necessary for Highmark to remain an innovative company that is competitively positioned for future growth in a marketplace that is rapidly evolving,” a Highmark spokesperson told abc27 news. “This transformation requires that we continue the work we started in 2023 to reimagine and simplify our operations to effectively and efficiently achieve the quintuple aim — better patient experience, clinician satisfaction, health equity and health outcomes, with lower costs. We had 41 Highmark employees impacted here in central Pennsylvania.”

According to Highmark’s website, the company currently insures approximately 7 million members across Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, and West Virginia. Highmark Blue Shield serves 21 counties in Central Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley.
