Hickory man in court Friday, facing death by distribution charge

HICKORY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 41-year-old man is facing death by distribution charges and will appear in court today, according to Catawba County authorities.

A Catawba County grand jury indicted Kevin Oneal Carroll for death by distribution in the death of Mariah Brown. Brown, 32, died at a residence in Catawba County in September 2023.

The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner listed Brown’s cause of death as Fentanyl Toxicity. Carroll was arrested and is facing charges of:

  • Felony death by distribution

  • Sell of Schedule II controlled substances

  • Maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling controlled substances

Carroll is being held without bond in the Catawba County Detention Facility and has a first appearance in Catawba County District Court on Friday, April 19.
