Herald-Mail Student of the Week: See this week's winner

Benjamin "Brooks" Myers has been chosen as The Herald-Mail Student of the Week.

Brooks, a sophomore at Clear Spring High School, was one of seven nominees submitted by local high schools and received the most votes cast online.

Brooks' nomination stated he is active in band and athletics. He is on the Blazers football team and participates in indoor and outdoor track.

He is enrolled in Advanced Placement and honors courses, balancing his school workload and extracurricular activities admirably.

Brooks is a hard worker and is kind to both staff and students.

We are proud of Brooks and look forward to his continued success, his nomination states.

Next week's poll

Local school administrators have nominated students who have shown outstanding academic and school achievements for the next round of Student of the Week voting.

Our next poll will publish on Monday, April 8, with a new list of nominees. Voting will be open through noon, Thursday, April 11, on our website.

We will announce the winner at HeraldMailMedia.com on Friday, April 12, and in The Herald- Mail on Sunday, April 14.

A look at the other nominees for The Herald-Mail Student of the Week

Jayden Nguyen, South Hagerstown High School: Jayden, a freshman, consistently goes above and beyond. He always arrives to class early and is prepared. Jayden is a fantastic role model to his peers.

Jolein Minnick, Boonsboro High School: Jolein, a senior, is a consistent leader in the school's Japanese program, which studies include language and culture. As a four-year student in the program, she has taken the lead for Japanese Culture Club, planning and promoting monthly activities. Jolein also has been a beloved peer tutor in the middle school Japanese class. She is encouraging, supportive and fun with all the students. They learn a lot from her and look forward to her arrival every day. Jolein will continue her studies at Hagerstown Community College as a biology major with an end goal of becoming a veterinarian.

Isabel Jackson, Boyd J. Michael III Technical High School: Isabel, a senior in Tech High's Homeland Security - Information Technologies program, is a motivated student. She recently received a Washington County Youth Meritorious Award. Isabel is always positive and gets along with her peers. She is determined about what she is going to accomplish in her life. Isabel is willing to undertake challenges and meets them head-on with sheer tenacity. It has been a pleasure to have Isabel in class this year.

Kaybree Souders, Hancock Middle Senior High School: Kaybree, a freshman, consistently embodies the qualities of academic excellence, leadership and kindness within our school community. Her dedication to her studies is evident in her enrollment in AP and Honors courses. Kaybree's kindness and compassion shine through in her interactions with her classmates and teachers. She consistently goes out of her way to support and encourage others, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect within the classroom. Her willingness to lend a helping hand and her positive attitude contribute significantly to the overall morale and atmosphere of our school community.

Dowoo Kim, Global Vision Christian School Broadfording: Dowoo, a senior, is a distinguished honor roll student who is taking a rigorous academic course load. He is part of the helping hands volunteer club. Dowoo demonstrates strong leadership qualities within our student body. His strong interpersonal skills have allowed him to build friendships with many different students. Dowoo is known not for making friends so that he can gain something from the relationship, but rather because he values people and cares about the individual. 

Cheyenne Jordan, Smithsburg High School: Cheyenne, a senior, works so hard in all of her classes and is always ready for a challenge. She is a member of the AVID college-readiness program. Cheyenne is very active in the Smithsburg learning community, where she is an officer in the Future Farmers of America program, a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, and is vice president for the Student Government Association. She recently received a Washington County Youth Meritorious Award.
