Helping Ukraine will bolster Western democracies - Taiwan's Foreign Minister

Helping Ukraine can be key for Western democracies to increase their relative strength against the Chinese-Russian coalition, Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said in an interview with Foreign Affairs.
It is important to understand how the degree of strategic interests of world democracies correlates with the plans of Moscow and Beijing, he said.
China has provided military support to Russia since second half of 2023, as the USA has repeatedly said.
"China has clearly decided that it is interested not only in supporting Russia, but also in changing the geopolitical landscape in Europe," Wu said.
Since China and Russia are in such a close relationship, it is important for democracies to act in a coordinated manner, he added.
“World democracies led by the USA should sustain military, economic, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine,” he said.
"Continuing to support Ukraine in its struggle for survival in the face of Russian aggression, the world democracies have demonstrated exactly the determination and moral clarity that Taiwan needs from them."

Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry released a “peace plan” in February 2023 to resolve Russia's war on Ukraine. It consists of 12 points, including a ceasefire, resumption of peace talks, cessation of “unilateral sanctions” against Russia, operation of a Black Sea grain corridor, nuclear safety, and the renunciation of nuclear weapons.
Russia's war on Ukraine must be ”resolved through negotiations,” China’s special envoy on Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, said on March 2 after talks with a Russian representative.
China is ready to act as a mediator to “facilitate peaceful negotiations” between Russia, Ukraine, and other parties for the “political settlement of the war,” China's Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
The resolution of Russia's war on Ukraine is impossible without considering Russian interests, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and Li Hui on March 3.
China is prepared to work on creating a new impetus for cooperation and strengthening its friendship with Russia, China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on March 7.
Blinken arrived in Shanghai on a three-day visit to China from April 24 to 26 to pressure China to stop its companies from contributing to the development of Russia's defense industry.
Jinping expressed the desire on May 5 to cooperate with French President Emmanuel Macron and the international community to end the war in Ukraine, calling it “crisis resolution.”
