Heavy storms likely this morning, low risk for severe weather

Heavy storms are slowly moving through Acadiana this Monday morning. Flash flooding is possible along with a low threat for severe weather. A Severe Thunderstorm WATCH is in effect until 9:00 am. Much of the area could receive 3 to 5″ inches of rain with isolated higher amounts of over 6″ inches. Do not drive across flooded roads.

Rain chances drop off during the afternoon as temperatures climb into the upper 70s. Hotter and quieter weather returns tomorrow.

Consumer protection groups around the European Union have filed coordinated complaints against Temu, accusing the Chinese-owned ultra low-cost e-commerce platform of a raft of breaches related to the bloc's Digital Services Act (DSA). Temu only launched in the region about a year ago but recently reported blasting past 75 million monthly users. For some reference, Temu's parent Pinduoduo reported revenues of nearly $35 billion for 2023, nearly double on the year prior; Temu was estimated to account for about 23% of that amount last year.

On the second day of the Google I/O 2024 conference, Google said on Wednesday that it is adding new security and privacy protections to Android, including on-device live threat detection to catch malicious apps, new safeguards for screen sharing and better security against cell site simulators. The company said it is increasing the on-device capability of its Google Play Protect system to detect fraudulent apps trying to breach sensitive permissions. Google said if the system is certain about malicious behavior, it disables the app automatically.
