Heat, humidity, and storm chances on the rise heading into the long weekend

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)– The uncomfortable and sticky weather has arrived in the Wiregrass, with high temperatures soaring into the upper 80s, and feels like temperatures in the low to mid 90s Thursday afternoon.

Not much relief is coming over the next few days, with the heat and humidity expected to build over Memorial Day weekend. The hottest days look to be Saturday through Monday. The heat index could approach 100 degrees during the afternoons, and overnight lows will only bottom out in the low 70s.

People sensitive to the hot weather should take extra precautions this weekend to avoid heat-related illness.

During hot and humid patterns such as the one the we’re in, sporadic rain chances are not unusual. This weekend will be no different.

While a few pop-up thunderstorms are possible on Friday, there is a slightly better chance of rain on Saturday evening when weakening thunderstorms may approach the Wiregrass. These storms could bring gusty winds, but severe weather is not anticipated at this time.

Another chance of rain may move in Monday and Tuesday along a cold front that will end the oppressive heat. Much of this activity looks spotty and scattered as well.

Overall, while a few rain chances are possible over the holiday weekend, there will be plenty of dry time, and the weekend will be far from a washout!
