Health Department's Elwood office opening May 1

Apr. 15—ELWOOD — Madison County Health Department is set to open its satellite office in Elwood on May 1.

The office, located at 226 S. Anderson St. Suite B is "ready to go," according to Stephenie Mellinger, health department administrator.

It will be open three days a week and will house all of the department's services minus environmental. Those services will be available by phone call.

The department is renting a former doctor's office building from Ascension St. Vincent Mercy for approximately $500 per month.

A mixture of state-issued funds and other grants are being used to paint and add technology to the office space. The department previously budgeted about $150,000 of those funds for "capital improvements."

Actual amounts have come out to about $77,000, according to Mellinger.

This project has been in the works since 2020 as the department saw a heavy need for its services in the Elwood community.
