Harrisburg International Airport losing an airline

Harrisburg, Pa. (WHTM) — Frontier airlines will end all flights from Harrisburg International Airport in May.

The “ultra-low-cost carrier,” or ULCC, as airlines like Frontier are known, will operate its last flight to Orlando International Airport May 13, as first reported by The Points Guy and confirmed by an abc27 News analysis of Cirium airline schedule data. Orlando is Frontier’s only destination from Harrisburg.

The other “ULCC” operating at HIA — Allegiant — will continue serving Orlando at nearby Orlando-Sanford airport.

“We are certainly disappointed Frontier is ending its service to Orlando International as they shift their network strategy toward larger cities and more business markets,” HIA spokesman Scott Miller said. “From HIA, there are still great flight options to get to central Florida, as Allegiant offers low-fare flights to Orlando-Sanford up to six times a week and American, United and Delta are increasing flights this summer, providing more connecting opportunities as well.”

Despite the loss of Frontier, HIA will still have slightly more total scheduled flights and seats this summer than last summer because of additions by those other airlines, the abc27 News analysis of schedule data found.
