Hard Rock Bristol donates to Boone Lake Association during 25th annual Boone Lake Cleanup

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Leaders with Hard Rock Bristol presented a donation to the Boone Lake Association to celebrate Earth Day, which is Monday. Hard Rock delivered the check to the organization during its 25th annual Boone Lake Cleanup event on Saturday morning.

Around 20 Hard Rock Bristol Casino representatives gathered at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City to present the check to the environmental organization they chose this year, the Boone Lake Association.

According to casino leaders, funds for the check came from a special Earth Day t-shirt that team members at the Bristol Casino were able to buy. Christine Choi, director of marketing for Hard Rock Bristol, said the company does a lot to recognize Earth Day.

“Hard Rock really cares for the planet, that’s actually one of our motos, ‘Save the Planet,'” she said. “So we were selling these t-shirts to team members and we were able to raise over two thousand dollars.”

The Boone Lake Association said the annual cleanup day is the non-profit’s largest fundraiser. Volunteers line up at 9 a.m. to receive trash bags; for each bag of trash collected from the lakefront, the participant gets a door prize ticket. At the end of the cleanup day, door prizes are drawn and volunteers are treated to a free picnic lunch and music.

Organization board member Bob Honeycutt told News Channel 11 that this volunteer event is just a taste of what Boone Lake Association members do every day, on and off-season, to keep the lake clean.

“We have crews that are out every day picking up logs, trash, big pieces of Styrofoam, appliances,” he said. “You would not believe what makes its way into the lake; that goes on year-round.”

Honeycutt said the grand door prize this year was a fully restored canoe that was initially found as rubbage in the lake more than three years ago. He said it was meticulously restored by a past association president.

According to the organization, last year’s cleanup event yielded more than 500 bags of trash. For more information on the Boone Lake Association and how to get involved in cleanup events, visit BooneLakeAssociation.org.
