  • May 24-25 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.

  • May 25 Downtown Growers’ Market – The market happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Robinson Park.

  • May 25 KUNM Dance Party – At Smith Plaza in front of Zimmerman Library on UNM Campus. The party features DJ Aimie Jane and goes from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • May 25 The Monologists – A day of one-person shows happening at the Orpheum downtown. Shows at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

  • May 25-26 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.

  • May 25-27 New Mexico Wine Festival – The festival runs each day from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Balloon Fiesta Park.

  • May 26 The Historic Lobo Theater presents: Twilight – Brunch and a movie begins at 11:30 p.m. Tickets range from $10-$25.

  • May 26 Mason Jar Class – Create your own bouquet at this event at Kelly Jo Designs by Wine in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque.

  • May 29 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • May 29 National Senior Health and Fitness Day – The event will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center.

  • May 24 Community & Crafts – This free monthly event at Rainbow Rainbow at Meow Wolf begins at 5:30 p.m. All ages event.

  • May 24Memorial Day Self-Care Event – The Blue Lotus Healing Arts Center in Ruidoso will be holding this event beginning at 9:00 a.m.

  • May 25 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.

  • May 25 Introduction to Permaculture Design – The Zia Elemental School of Permaculture and Herbalism is holding this event from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

  • May 25 Lavender You-Pick in Tularosa – Floren Family Farms is hosting this event beginning at 8:00 a.m.

  • May 25 Community Mental Health Celebration – This event will have presentations by local artists and community speakers at the Rio Grande Theater beginning at 5:00 p.m.

  • May 25 Native Plant Sale – The plants that the Native Plant Society New Mexico greenhouse crew have seeded and grown have exploded. Come by the plant sale at Fred Baca Park in Taos from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • May 25 Jemez Red Rocks Arts and Crafts Show – The 31st Annual Jemez Red Rocks Arts and Crafts Show at 7462 NM-4 in Jemez Pueblo.

Albuquerque Notices

🔶 Registration open for Albuquerque Little Theatre summer camps – Albuquerque Little Theatre Education and Youth Program offers classes, workshops, and summer camps that cater to students of all ages. Kids can register for Disney’s Descendants musical camp, the play actors mini camp, the Play Builders summer camp, and more.

🔶 Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office plans DWI checkpoints in May – Deputies will be looking for people driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Community members are asked to report drivers they believe are impaired by calling 911.

🔶 Zozobra hot air balloon design unveiled ahead of 100th anniversary – The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe, the City of Santa Fe, and the City of Albuquerque unveiled the design of the hot air balloon shaped as “Old Man Gloom” on Monday. The balloon is 135 feet tall, weighs 730 pounds, and has a gross volume of 130,000 cubic feet.

🔶 UNM study: Microplastics found in testicular tissue from humans and dogs – Researchers said that this discovery adds to growing concern about how microplastics may impact human reproductive health. Researchers decided to study human and canine tissue for a couple of reasons, one of which is that dogs live alongside people and share their environment.

🔶 Albuquerque Public Schools will offer both art and music at elementary schools – Previously, schools alternated between art and music instruction each year. But now, elementary students will be able to participate in visual arts and music annually.

🔶 New Mexico State Fair holding auditions to sing the National Anthem – The live auditions will be at the Boxcar Stage from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EXPO New Mexico on August 6. To audition live, you must sign up by August 5.

🔶 Developer announces plans for new boutique hotel in Nob Hill – On Tuesday, Titan Development announced its purchase of the Hiway House Motel. It’s been closed for more than a year, the Hiway House Hotel off Central in Nob Hill has brought in a lot of negative attention but after an explosion in 2019, squatters, and a fire in 2023.

🔶 ABQ RIDE looking for volunteers to help clean bus stops before Pride Parade – The event will be the third annual “Adopt-A-Stop” community cleanup on June 1. The goal is to clean bus stops in the city’s International District before the Albuquerque Pride Parade, which is scheduled for a week after the cleanup.

🔶 Registration open for Bernalillo County summer camps – The summer camps run from June 10 to July 26, and registration is now open at this link. The seven-week program costs $290. The summer programs run from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

🔶 Constructive Conversations series with Albuquerque city leaders – The city is holding the series to help bridge the gap between what the community wants and what the city can do. The constructive conversation series runs through the month of May and will reach all over the city. The events are free to attend, but guests must RSVP in advance, by clicking here.

New Mexico Notices

🔶 Forest road near Cuba, New Mexico closed for elk calving – Spring brings the annual calving season for elk in New Mexico. To protect the animals, forest officials are closing Forest Road 69. The road reaches into the Santa Fe National Forest. It will be closed to all vehicles from May 15 to June 30.

🔶 Uber ride vouchers offered in three NM counties during Memorial Day weekend – The “Take a Ride on Us” program is offering 2,500 trips on a first-come, first-served basis. Riders can open the Uber app, and under vouchers add the code “NMMD24” to receive a credit of up to $10 off two trips. Residents in Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Bernalillo counties are eligible for discounted Uber rides

🔶 Rio Rancho Bosque Open Space Area reopens after fires – Rio Rancho Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the open space area near River’s Edge II on Sunday and found multiple fires from Rio Rancho North Beach and extending north. The response was all hands on deck with help coming from Albuquerque, State Forestry, and other nearby fire crews in Corrales and Cochiti Pueblo.

🔶 Village of Los Ranchos mayor passes away – The Village of Los Ranchos announced on Wednesday that Mayor Joe Craig, 74, passed away. Craig was elected to the position in November. Officials did not specify how Craig passed away.

🔶 PNM: Graduation balloons can cause power outages – Mylar balloons, in particular, are made of a conductive material and can cause power line malfunctions. They can also create safety hazards.

🔶 UNM Health looks to build reproductive health center in Las Cruces – The University of New Mexico Board of Regents voted 6-1, during its meeting on May 16, to approve the acquisition of land in Doña Ana County for the reproductive health care center. Officials are eyeing property on the north side of Lohman Avenue between Road Runner Parkway and North Sonoma Ranch Boulevard, located near MountainView Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

🔶 New community hospital coming to Farmington, New Mexico – The plan is to bring a full-service emergency department, an onsite lab, and single-occupancy inpatient rooms. The emergency department will be open 24 hours a day, Exceptional Healthcare says.

🔶 Summer events in Cloudcroft, New Mexico – From art festivals to local beer, Cloudcroft is inviting visitors all summer. The 51st Annual May Fair Juried Art Fair will be May 25 – 26 at Zenith Park. The Cloudcroft BeerFest will be June 22 – 23. July 13 – 14 at Zenith Park is the Christmas in July Jamboree.

🔶 CDC: E.coli outbreak linked to walnuts sold in New Mexico, 18 other states – Seven people have been hospitalized and two have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a dangerous kidney disease, the CDC said. There have been no deaths reported. Almost all of the people infected purchased walnuts in bulk that were originally supplied by Gibson Farms, Inc., which has since recalled the products.

🔶 New Mexico legislature taking applications for internships – Applications are now open for undergraduate students and those who have recently graduated from college. Interns help with day-to-day staff work and are paid $17 per hour.
