  • March 29 Pastel Paws – The Humane Society of Lincoln County Resale Shop in Ruidoso is holding an event for pets to have their photo taken with the Easter Bunny. Begins at 12:00 p.m.

  • March 29 Herbs For the Childbearing Year – This remote interactive course is offered by the Human Path in Taos.

  • March 29-30 “Rent” at Flickinger Center for Performing Arts – The last two performances of Alamogordo Music Theatre’s production of the Jonathan Larson classic. Tickets are $12.48.

  • March 31 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages beginning at 1:00 p.m.

🔶 ABQ BioPark warns of 100th Anniversary ticket scam – The BioPark says the scam claims to offer $6.95 tickets to commemorate the 100th anniversary. The park wants to warn the public not to fall victim to this scam. Valid ABQ BioPark admission tickets can be purchased online at abqtickets.com.

🔶 Albuquerque pausing rabbit adoptions for Easter – The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department is suspending rabbit adoptions from city shelters from March 28 through Monday, April 1.

🔶 Bernalillo County proposes official renaming of area known as ‘Sandia Ranch’ – The county is proposing to officially rename the land located at 6915 Edith Blvd. NE. According to the county, the “Sandia Ranch” name first surfaced years ago when a tuberculous sanatorium was located there.

🔶 Adult STEM night at National Museum of Nuclear Science and History – ‘Discovery After Dark’ will take place on April 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

🔶 Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Socorro getting recreation upgrades –  New Mexico is expanding recreation option around the state with an investment of over $1.6 million. The idea is to expand equitable access to the outdoors through the state’s “Trails+” program.

🔶 Isotopes unveil new LED stadium lighting system – The new system increases light levels more uniformly throughout the ballpark improving visibility for fans and players to track the baseball while minimizing glare.

🔶 Registration open for Albuquerque Little Theatre summer camps – Albuquerque Little Theatre Education and Youth Program offers classes, workshops, and summer camps that cater to students of all ages. Kids can register for Disney’s Descendants musical camp, the play actors mini camp, the Play Builders summer camp, and more.

🔶 Registration open for Bernalillo County summer camps – The summer camps run from June 10 to July 26, and registration is now open at this link. The seven-week program costs $290. The summer programs run from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

🔶 Explora Spring Break Camps – Explora is offering Spring Break camps on March 22, 25-29, and April 1-5. They will provide STEAM camps for Pre-K, K-2nd Grade, and 3-5th Grade groups.

🔶 2 Rio Rancho City Council positions headed to runoff election – In District 6, Nicole Dahn leads the pack with more than 200 votes over her next competitor Edward Lynn Paulsgrove but she did not get the 50% vote needed. Paul M. Wymer is the new District 5 councilor with 54% of the votes. The runoff elections for the city council will be on April 9.

🔶 Lawyers in New Mexico diocese abuse lawsuit launch website –The lawyers behind a new lawsuit are also launching an outreach project to encourage other victims to come forward. Since launching the site earlier this year, they say about six survivors have come forward.

🔶 Rio Grande Theatre offering 2024 Summer Camp – Registration is now open for the inaugural year of the Rio Grande Theatre Camp. Theater and tech classes will be offered. The last day to register is May 24 at 4:00 p.m.

🔶 New Mexico laws going into effect in spring – Lawmakers recently approved a wide range of bills, from gun-related regulations to adjusted requirements students must meet to graduate high school. Many of those new laws go into effect on May 15.

🔶 New Mexico History Museum to host free community event at the Palace of the Governors – The event is to celebrate the completion of five years of rehabilitation work at the Palace. “History Homecoming: Past, Present, Palace” will take place on Sunday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Palace of the Governors.

🔶 Eastern New Mexico University getting over $16 million for improvements – Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) is getting a range of campus improvements thanks to funds approved during the 2024 legislative session. The school is getting $12 million for a new student academic services building. Groundbreaking for that project is happening later this year, the school says.

🔶 New Mexico offering debt relief for healthcare workers – Workers must meet certain qualifications, such as working in an eligible occupation or under an eligible healthcare license. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

🔶 New Mexico Medicaid now covering Opill oral contraceptive – Medicaid customers can get the contraceptive at no cost, the state says. Customers just need to ask for the drug at the pharmacy counter. Medicaid in New Mexico also offers no-cost pregnancy tests and emergency contraception. There is also a hotline (1-833-796-8773) for reproductive healthcare questions and help.

🔶 I-10 rehabilitation project near Arizona border to cause delays – A massive interstate rehabilitation project will cause delays on both eastbound and westbound I-10. The work will begin on Monday, April 1. Work on I-10 between milepost 0 at the Arizona-New Mexico border and milepost 15 in Hidalgo County will last around 200 working days, the New Mexico Department of Transportation says. Drivers should expect daytime lane closures.

🔶 New Mexico History Museum collecting community objects for Zozobra exhibition – The museum and the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe want to see the community’s favorite memories of Zozobra, also known as “Old Man Gloom.” Community members can bring materials like vintage merch, family movies, or other memorabilia directly to NMHM on Lincoln Street to have them examined and photographed on-site.

🔶 New Mexico Military Institute students head to DC to compete in National Science Bowl finals – The team from the New Mexico Military Institute secured their spot and an all-expenses-paid trip to the finals after winning a qualifying regional competition this past weekend. The National Finals will take place from April 25- 29, in Washington, D.C., and will include science activities and sightseeing, along with the competitions.
