Severe weather forecast for Hampton Roads Wednesday doesn’t affect region

Hampton Roads was put under a tornado watch after the National Weather Service in Wakefield warned of severe weather Wednesday.

According to the weather service, warm and moist air ahead of low pressure and a cold front was expected to interact with strong winds, resulting in the potential for damaging winds and large hail. The watch included all cities in the region.

The watch was in effect until 7 p.m. No tornado touched down Wednesday in Hampton Roads.

“Storms will increase in coverage and intensity later this morning with the potential for multiple rounds of convection through the early evening,” a notice from the service read.

For Hampton Roads, meteorologists reported a “slight” chance for more severe weather, but scattered severe storms were possible.
