Hammer-wielding group targeting Northwest Side businesses overnight: CPD

CHICAGO — Chicago police are investigating a rash of burglaries on the city’s Northwest Side.

According to police, a group of about 3-4 males broke into several businesses in the early morning hours of Friday, May 10. All incidents occurred in just under two and a half hours, police added.

The group used a hammer to break the front glass doors of the business to gain entry.

Once inside, the group retrieves the money from the register before escaping in “a 4-door light-colored Honda CRV with Florida license plate #4922AP or a Light Gray Jeep Cherokee with heavy tint, sunroof, and rear passenger window covered with black plastic,” police said.

  • Albany Park

    • 2900 block of W. Irving Park Rd on May 10 at 1:25 a.m.

  •  Avondale

    • 3300 block of California Ave on May 10 at 1:52 a.m.

  • Old Irving Park

    • 3900 block of Avondale Ave on May 10 at 2:18 a.m.

    • 3900 block of Avondale Ave on May 10 at 2:19 a.m.

  • Logan Square

    • 2700 North block of Milwaukee Ave on May 10 at 3:50 a.m.

    • 2700 North block of Milwaukee Ave on May 10 at 3:50 a.m.

    • 2700 North block of Milwaukee Ave on May 10 at 3:50 a.m.

    • 2700 North block of Milwaukee Ave on May 10 at 3:50 a.m.

    • 2700 North block of Milwaukee Ave on May 10 at 3:50 a.m.

According to police, the suspects are 17-20 years of age and wore black ski masks, gloves, black hooded sweatshirts, and black pants.
