Haddon Avenue bridge out of use until late May, Jackson Road is next project

BERLIN BOROUGH — A Haddon Avenue bridge that crosses an NJ Transit rail line is closed to traffic while a $1 million project addresses structural deficiencies.

The closing began March 12 and is expected to end by May 27, according to Camden County's Department of Public Works.

“This is a major piece of county infrastructure and repairing it is critical,” county Commissioner Al Dyer said of the span near Route 30 and Berlin-Cross Keys Road.

A NJ Transit spokesman said bridge covers over the Atlantic City Rail Line. The project should have no impacts on that service, he said.

The county has a second major project for the borough scheduled for April.

It is designed to benefit walkers and bicyclists, as well as motorists.

A portion of Jackson Road from White Horse Pike to Route 73 will receive improved drainage infrastructure, and curb and sidewalk improvements.

One mile of roadway will repaved as part of the $1.6 million project.
