Gypsy Rose Blanchard and husband split three months after prison release: reports

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Gypsy Rose Blanchard announced she has split from her husband, Ryan Anderson, three months after being released from an eight-year prison sentence for the second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, according to multiple reports.

The 32-year-old announced her freedom on social media back in December 2023 from the Chillicothe Correctional Center, a Missouri women’s prison, where she tied the knot with Anderson in July 2022.

According to PEOPLE, Blanchard described the split on Thursday via private Facebook account. It read:

“People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parents home down the bayou,” Blanchard said.

Prior to her release in December, Blanchard allegedly told PEOPLE she planned to celebrate and remarry Anderson alongside her friends and family in a “reception/redo wedding.”

“Our prison wedding was just something to where we can make our vows to each other. It was something that meant something to us. And I think the party is kind of for everybody else and us, but mostly for everybody else.”

After her 2016 second-degree murder conviction for persuading her then boyfriend, Nicholas “Nick” Godejohn, to kill her abusive mother, Blanchard and Anderson’s relationship began as pen pals while she served eight-and-a-half years of a 10-year prison sentence.

In a candid interview with Entertainment Tonight from early January, Blanchard said, “Ryan’s from Louisiana… and I’m originally from Louisiana, and I saw that, I’m kinda like, ‘Oh, hey, someone from my home state!’ So I wrote him a letter back and we became friends,” said Blanchard, “and of course more than friends, and then now we’re married.”

Blanchard, now home with her family, says she is using this time to heal and determine who she is as a person.

“I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find… who I am.”
