Guthrie celebrates National Trauma Survivors Day
SAYRE, P.A. (WETM) — A group of people spoke at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for National Trauma Survivors Day to reflect on severe accidents they’ve recovered from. The people who spoke were trauma patients of Robert Packer Hospital at the time of their accidents.
Kerrie Falk, one of the trauma survivors who endured a head-on collision back in 2009, expressed her thanks to the caregivers.
Saying how, “Their work is making a huge difference in the world, all over the world because, you know, it’s a level one trauma center. They’re getting patients from everywhere.”

Another one of the survivors was an amputee named Jeremiah Bailey who lost a leg from a motorcycle head-on collision in May 2011.
“Surround yourself with people that encourage you to grow and push yourself and just know that you are capable of more than you realize,” said Bailey. “And you know with the love and support of those around you, you can accomplish anything.”
One of the survivors who spoke, Curtis Jewett, was not only rescued from his boating accident in July 2023 but was also born at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. According to Jewett, his injury at the time left him paralyzed from the neck down, and today he is walking again.
“Every time I’m here, I always walk around the halls like I used to and everybody’s so happy to see me up and walk around and they’re amazed that I’m even walking and looking the way I do,” said Jewett.
Since July 2023, Robert Packer Hospital has moved from a Level 2 to a Level 1 Trauma Center and is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the Twin Tiers.
