Gun-Slinging Septuagenarian 'Stood His Ground,' Won't Face Charges
Samuel Williams was just your average 71-year-old chilling in an Ocala, Florida, Internet cafe with a concealed weapon ... until the robbers showed up."Based on what I have seen and what I know at this time, I don't anticipate filing any charges," Bill Gladson of the State Attorney's Office for 5th Judicial Circuit told The Gainesville Sun. Williams was one 30 or so patrons of the Palms Internet Cafe who were held up on Friday, and was also the only one to "stand his ground" and fire his concealed .380. And if you can believe it, there are reasons Williams's actions are gaining attention that don't have anything to do with his age. You see, this happened in the topsy-turvy world of Florida, and thanks to George Zimmerman and death of Trayvon Martin, we've all become well aware of the state's complicated "Stand Your Ground" law where you can use deadly force to defend yourself if you fear imminent death. Apparently, Williams's heroics have the State Attorney's blessing and it looks like the Sheriff's too, as The Sun reports Gladson said the Marion County Sheriff's Office will issue a final report after reviewing the surveillance video, but he indicated that the shooting appears justified.
