Guelph police want to know who stole 875 steel hoops from an east-end business
Guelph police are investigating after a large quantity of metal products were stolen from a business in the east end.
Police say 875 steel hoops worth more than $10,000 were stolen in two days from outside a business near Watson Road South and Airpark Place.
According to Guelph Police, there is surveillance video from the incident showing three people loading the steel hoops onto their maroon four-door Ford F350 just after 3 p.m. on Saturday.
"The truck backed up to a loading dock, where items were loaded into the bed and the suspects left the area," a release sent out by police on Wednesday said.
Three days after that incident, police say they saw surveillance footage of a similar truck along with another white pickup truck parked in the same area around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.
"Three suspects loaded the vehicles and again left the area," the release said.
Scott Tracey, media relations coordinator for Guelph Police, says the steel hoops are likely going to be sold for scrap metal.
"They're essentially parts of the manufacturing process for small wheels used in construction. So they're very specific in what they are and unless people are making their own forklift wheels, they would have very little use for these things other than scrap metal," Tracey explained.
He says each steel hoop is about 20 cm in diameter and used to construct the wheels of a forklift.
