MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A small group of protestors hit the streets in the Cooper-Young community, upset about a new law impacting immigrants in Tennessee.

Judge says release of teen in officer shooting ‘appropriate’

Members of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refuge Rights Coalition held a march along Cooper Street. They’re against a bill signed by Governor Bill Lee requiring police to report any illegal immigrants.

The new law takes effect July 1. The governor says it will help keep the state safe.

Memphis Police worked to disperse the crowd, telling them through louspeakers that if they did not leave that they would be arrested. “This is a police emergency,” the message said in Spanish and English.
