Groton RTM approves $155.2 million budget

May 21—GROTON — The Representative Town Meeting finished its budget reviews Monday and approved a $155.2 million budget for 2024-25, a 4.28% increase over the current budget.

Last month, the Town Council sent a proposed $153.5 million budget, which is 3.1% more than the current budget, to the RTM.

During its budget reviews, the RTM added to the council's budget about $1.53 million for education, $5,000 for Mystic River Ambulance, and $4,000 for the Mystic & Noank Library. The RTM also added $161,000 to capital reserves: $141,000 for upgrades to the Robert E. Fitch High School auditorium and $20,000 for athletic field development.

The council will set the fund balance and tax rate at its May 28 meeting, according to Town Manager John Burt.
