Greenwood man sentenced in 2021 fatal shooting, robbery of his Lyft driver

A Greenwood man has been sentenced in the 2021 fatal shooting and robbery of a Lyft driver on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

Jahion Jarrett was ordered to spend 35 years in prison by Marion Superior Judge Angela Davis for conspiracy to commit murder after pleading guilty in January in the killing of 45-year-old Hurts Presendieu. As part of the plea, his charges of murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, resisting law enforcement and dangerous possession of a firearm were dismissed.

The court further ordered Jarrett to undergo drug and alcohol treatment while incarcerated.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers found Presendieu after receiving reports about an unresponsive man “behind an outbuilding” on a church property. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

An autopsy revealed Presendieu had been shot once in the head.

Surveillance video on the property showed Presendieu’s gray 2018 Nissan Rogue driving behind the barn the day before he was discovered. More footage captured the SUV leaving the scene. Three days later, officers said they found Jarrett, who was 17 at the time, and two other juveniles driving in the car.

Witnesses told police Presendieu was working as a Lyft driver at the time of his death. Records from the rideshare company indicated he picked up a ride at 8:43 p.m. on the day of his death.

Police further traced Jarrett to the killing from his GPS ankle monitor, which matched his location with Lyft records. Jarrett wore the monitor for a previous armed robbery and auto theft case.

More witnesses told police Jarrett said he shot his Lyft driver and referred to the ride as a “lick,” slang for robbery, police said in court records.
