WATCH: Community celebrates Gravette teacher’s retirement after 54 years on the job

GRAVETTE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Gravette teacher who has taught three generations of students is retiring after 54 years.

Margaret Martin is a first grade teacher at Glenn A. Duffy Elementary. The community came together to celebrate Martin’s career.

Martin was hired in 1970 and is now teaching the grandchildren of some of her former students. She says her desire to help kids grow and learn is what kept her in the classroom for so long.

“It’s been a wonderful life, but I just feel like it’s time for me to step down and let somebody else go on,” Martin said.

Martin says it has always been a goal of hers to teach kids not just from books, but also helping them learn about life. Her last day teaching is May 29.

KNWA/FOX24’s photojournalist Ethan Sam was at Martin’s retirement celebration and shows the community’s heart-felt thank you.
