Grand opening for new Sheetz in Hagerstown area is on Tuesday

Sheetz is celebrating its newest convenience store in Washington County on Tuesday with a grand opening that includes free self-serve coffee and soda for the day, according to a news release announcing the opening.

The Sheetz, along eastbound Dual Highway near Mount Aetna Road, will open to the public at 8 a.m. Tuesday, with grand opening festivities starting at 9 a.m. Multiple prizes will be awarded, including a grand prize of "free Sheetz for a Year," which has a value of $2,500 in a Sheetz gift card, according to the release. Entrants don't have to buy anything, but must be over 18 and present to win.

A sign on the store Thursday stated there were five days to opening, so a soft opening is not expected.

A longtime Sheetz store and gas station, farther west along eastbound U.S. 40, closed in March. A Mart Plus is expected to open at that 301 E. Washington St. site in June.

Another new Sheetz store and gas station is planned at the Longmeadow Shopping Center in Hagerstown's North End. That project is progressing with an active work site, though Hagerstown officials did not know the latest expected date for completion, according to an email from Paul Fulk, neighborhood services manager.

A Sheetz representative did not immediately respond to a request for an update on the Longmeadow store.
