Grand jury issues a few indictments

Mar. 21—CATLETTSBURG — A Boyd County grand jury issued a meager stack of indictments this week, mostly including drug possession and trafficking.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather a jury comprised of everyday citizens found probable cause to pursue felony convictions from evidence presented in a closed session.

The following people remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law:

—Dewayne C. Mitchell, 51, of Ashland, was indicted on a sole count of trafficking carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives.

According to the indictment, if Mitchell is convicted, this would make his second drug trafficking conviction in six years.

Mitchell is held on a $75,000 cash bond.

—Michael T. Lowe, 51, of South Shore, was indicted on charges of public intoxication and simple possession of heroin.

—Brittany R. Scott, 35, of Ashland, was indicted on a sole count of simple possession of methamphetamine.

—Michael W. Vanderpool, 47, of Catlettsburg, was indicted on charges of simple possession of methamphetamine and other traffic related violations.

—Debra Morgan, 67, of Ashland, was indicted on a sole count of possession of methamphetamine.
