Grand Junction elects new mayor – Live

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) —The Grand Junction City Council has selected a new mayor to replace outgoing Mayor Anna Stout. Former Mayor Pro Tem Abe Herman has been appointed as the new mayor of Grand Junction. Herman is the owner and operator of Sukkah Project, a small business in Grand Junction that ships products nationally and internationally. He also sits on the board of Friends of Youth and Nature, which provides funding for youth activities in underserved communities to learn in the outdoors. Council member Randall Reitz was appointed as the new Mayor Pro Tem. Reitz holds a doctorate in marriage and family therapy from Brigham Young University. He returned to Grand Junction in 2008 to work for St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency, where he trains the next generation of family physicians, therapists and social workers.

Google expands hands-free and eyes-free interfaces on Android
As part of 2024's Accessibility Awareness Day, Google is showing off some updates to Android that should be useful to folks with mobility or vision impairments. Project Gameface allows gamers to use their faces to move the cursor and perform common click-like actions on desktop, and now it's coming to Android. The project lets people with limited mobility use facial movements, like raising an eyebrow, moving their mouth or turning their head, to activate a variety of functions.

TikTok tests 60-minute video uploads as it continues to take on YouTube
TikTok is testing the ability for users to upload 60-minute videos, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Thursday. The feature is available to a limited group of users in select markets, and TikTok says it doesn’t have any immediate plans to make the feature available widely. The feature, which was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, marks a shift from TikTok’s original format.

Poshmark, the social commerce site that lets people buy and sell new and used items to each other, launched a paid marketing tool on Thursday, giving sellers the ability to promote their entire shop at once. Poshmark’s new feature, called “Promoted Closet,” uses machine learning to automatically promote individual product listings from a seller's entire inventory, identifying shoppers’ search terms and matching them with promoted items. Promoted Closet works like “cost per click” models on Etsy, Amazon and Google Ads.

Private equity giant Thoma Bravo has announced that its security information and event management (SIEM) company LogRhythm will be merging with Exabeam, a rival cybersecurity company backed by the likes of Cisco and Lightspeed Venture Partners. SIEM is the business of using real-time data gleaned from servers, network devices, and applications to flag abnormal activity and thwart potential security threats before they escalate. The LogRhythm and Exabeam merger news arrived on the same day as Palo Alto Networks confirmed it was acquiring the assets of IBM's SIEM business, QRadar, which IBM had acquired in 2011.
