In a news release issued Friday, the Coast Guard’s Office of Personnel Management said Moore was relieved of his duties “due to a loss of confidence in his judgment and ability to fulfill his assigned duties.”

Moore took over Station Grand Haven in June of 2021. He replaced Master Chief Petty Officer Kirk McKay who retired after 30 years in the service. According to MLive, McKay was named the officer in charge of Station Grand Haven in 2018.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Moore worked in several roles in Virginia and Maine before moving to the Lake Michigan sector in 2015, working in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and Milwaukee before taking his role in Grand Haven.

Chief Petty Officer Justin Abold has assumed temporary command of Station Grand Haven. The station is manned by both active duty and reserve members, including one 45-foot response boat, two 29-foot response boats and two 15-foot rescue skiffs. The office oversees more than 3,500 square nautical miles on the eastern half of Lake Michigan.
