May 20—GRAND FORKS — A Grand Forks man has pleaded not guilty to four charges related to

abusing his wife while she was in the hospital

with cancer with chemotherapy complications.

Joshua Jon Temple, 40, pleaded not guilty to three felonies — endangering an eligible adult, terrorizing an adult victim with domestic violence and domestic violence resulting in serious bodily injury — as well as misdemeanor domestic violence resulting in substantial bodily injury.

He waived a preliminary hearing and arraignment that had been scheduled for Monday, May 20. A final dispositional conference is scheduled for Aug. 15.

Whitney Temple, a family practice doctor at Sanford Health's Grand Forks clinic,

died on May 6,

after Joshua Temple was charged with her abuse. An autopsy will help determine whether Whitney Temple died as a result of her illness or her injuries. Autopsy reports take about two months to complete.

On Monday, May 20, Grand Forks County State's Attorney Haley Wamstad declined to comment on whether she expected Temple's charges to be upgraded following his wife's death.

"At this time, our office has no update to provide or a timeline," Wamstad wrote in an email. "This matter remains an open and active investigation."
