Grabbing kielbasi ahead of the holiday weekend in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — With the holiday weekend coming up, a lot of people are looking to pick up kielbasi.

Leonard’s Kielbasi Market was busy on Thursday. They have been around since 1923 and owner Ed Balicki has worked there since 1951, taking over the business in 1968.

He says nothing has changed since they opened, from their classic kielbasi to their walk-in cooler that is made out of wood.

“We make. Well, three kinds of kielbasi, smoked, smoked with double garlic, and fresh. Then we make another product here that’s called kishka. Red kishka has blood in it. It’s a blood sausage, the white kishka doesn’t,” said Balicki.

“The taste, the time they put into it. And you could tell they really put their heart and soul into it for all these years. And it never changes the flavor,” said Sweet Valley resident Lisa Swanson.

If you want to get some kielbasi before Easter, they’ll be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
